"I had a great time at your retreat. Thanks for letting me be a part of it. I thought about you having asked a couple of times about not sharing your secrets. I just wanted to say that I think what you do is not your secret. Your secret is how you engage with people. There are some who could do everything the same way, in the same order, with the same people and they would not hold a candle to you. You make everyone feel like family and you know how to have fun but be intentional at the same time. I’m sure you have honed your talent over the years but it truly is a talent that not everyone has. You, my dear lady, are fantastic!"

Motherless Daughters Retreat with Hope Edelman and Claire Bidwel
April 20, 2017 · 3:00 pm -
April 23, 2017 · 11:00 am
Dahlonega Spa Resort
Were you a child or teenager when your mother died?

Do you often long for a mother’s guidance and care?

Does your life story feel like it’s split into “before” and “after” – and that a piece of you is still stuck in the “before”?

Do you often feel like an outsider among family and friends?

Would you like to share three days with other women who understand?

Acclaimed authors and mother loss experts Hope Edelman (Motherless Daughters, Motherless Mothers) and Claire Bidwell Smith (The Rules of Inheritance, After This) will take women on a three-day journey to share stories from their pasts, discuss their present-day lives as women without mothers, and set gentle intentions for their futures. Together we'll examine issues such as the fear of dying young, resistance to self-care, and feeling "stuck" at the age we were when our mothers died. Using small and large group discussions, experiential work, and storytelling techniques we'll explore the unique strengths and weaknesses that stem from early mother loss and the opportunities they offer for continued growth.

Hope and Claire are two of the most experienced and well-known voices in this field. This weekend is a rare opportunity to work with them together and to immerse in a healing experience within a community of women who share similar stories. Come prepared to share, stretch, cry, laugh, learn, and grow.

This workshop is for women who were up to age 21 when their mothers died. We ask for at least one year to have passed between the date of loss and the first day of this workshop.

It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Deep into the Heart of Yoga: Communing with the Divine
Friday, June 09 - Sunday, June 11, 2017

Yoga transforms lives. Students who consistently study and practice experience a deepening peace in their daily lives and a direct connection to the Divine within.

Heart practices are key to this connection and the practices conveyed at this retreat arise from ancient wisdom texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Upanishads, and Vedas. During our retreat we will learn physical practices that lighten the body, acquire breathing practices to heighten prana, and become familiar with meditative practices that focus the mind. Weaving these practices together masterfully, with yoga of sound, we create the optimum energy for going Deep Into the Heart of Yoga. Step away from the noise of your routine and culture, practice with a sincere and earnest heart in a sacred space, and it will change your life and open you to the wisdom of the Presence. Spend time journaling, meditating and walking in nature so you can attune your inner hearing to the still, small voice within.

Retreat Leader Elizabeth Yates' open heart creates a safe, supportive space for going deep within. She is a Structural Yoga Therapist with over 20 years’ experience practicing and teaching yoga. Her devoted study and capacity for deep love shine forth in her teaching. She does not meet a stranger and you instantly feel welcomed, at home, and valued. The foundation of her teaching and therapy is "Adapting Yoga to the Individual" and her extensive experience working with special populations offers expertise that makes the practice of yoga accessible to all bodies. Elizabeth is also a sincere student of Vedanta, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga and Christianity.

Retreat Leader Mandy Dixon discovered Svaroopa style yoga in 2003 and has been teaching this style of yoga for nine years. She grew up in a Chiropractic home which led to her passion for yoga and bodywork. She has been a licensed Neuromuscular therapist for fourteen years. Svaroopa style yoga focuses on "core opening" which releases the deeper tensions in the spine using precise alignment and props such as blankets and blocks. These deep spinal openings are relaxing yet enlivening.

Prices range from at $475-$850 all inclusive, cost varies with accommodation type. Included are 2 nights accommodations, delicious, healthy meals beginning with lunch Friday through breakfast on Sunday. Beautiful hiking trails, Jacuzzi, porch sitting to relax and listen to the wind chimes. Two yoga classes daily and evening events. Often live music is part the ambience during dinner. Program starts with lunch on Friday and concludes 11:00 on Sunday. Registration is limited. Reserve your space with 50% deposit now and balance due 7 days prior to retreat. We work hard to create this sacred space for you, so no refunds please. Contact Elizabeth @ 404-210-6800 or yogini2001@gmail.com

"Relaxation, community, spiritual connectedness, new friendships, and yoga practice. All in one place, all in one weekend.

I was privileged to be a member of Elizabeth Yates’ Summer Yoga Retreat in Dahlonega, GA. There, a group of 21 gathered and experienced a profound weekend. Together, we practiced yoga, restoration, relaxation, meditation and spiritual connection. We stretched our bodies and our minds. We took nature walks, and enjoyed early morning chats as we watched the sun come up. Over a delicious evening meal, we shared observations of our day’s experience, and its personal impact on each of us.

I left the weekend feeling restored. The Yoga Retreat was a personal gift to my heart, body and soul, and reminded me of the importance of self-nourishment."

"In June, I attended a yoga retreat in the north Georgia mountains led by the wondrous Elizabeth Yates. As I’d undergone major surgery only 6 weeks earlier, I felt unsure of the response my body would give when I asked it to bend, stretch, or balance. In large part because of the weekend’s pure magic, my body did all I asked of it. I felt magic in the location and beauty of the spa. I felt magic in the friendship, laughter, and like-mindedness of the participants (none of whom I knew), and their willingness to be open emotionally. I felt Magic in the instruction- deep, balanced, supportive, relaxing. Many of us hoped for another immediate opportunity to recreate our time together. I plan to attend the fall retreat not to recreate the past, but to re-energize, go deeper, and breathe deeply. I can’t wait."

Dahlonega Spa Resort
Are you so buried by teaching and service demands that you just can't make space for writing? Do you regularly declare to yourself that today you will spend a certain amount of time writing, but somehow end up writing for half that time, if at all? Perhaps you feel that whatever you do, it won't be 'enough" to finish your dissertation or publish your manuscript. InkWell’s Residential Writing Retreat is for faculty members, graduate students, and post-docs who want to prioritize, make progress on, and sustain their writing once they return home.

Facilitated by Michelle Boyd, PhD, founder of InkWell Academic Writing Retreats, this intimate, small group retreat is a week-long training program is best suited for scholars who want to change how they relate to their writing. Its proven curriculum combines powerful reflective practices with concrete, actionable strategies that allow you to uncover your writing process and lose yourself in your writing.

By the end of the retreat, you will not only have made significant, measurable progress on your manuscript. More importantly, you will also understand what to do to look forward to writing instead of dreading it; stay focused during writing sessions; feel satisfied by the quantity and quality of writing you complete; and recover your capacity for guilt-free leisure time. The Residential Writing Retreat includes:
• five full days devoted just to you and your writing
• long blocks of uninterrupted writing time, held in the company of supportive writers
• daily small-group trainings that teach you customized strategies for moving through a writing session
• encouragement and motivation from a small, supportive community of fellow scholars
• gorgeous writing environments with multiple nooks for writing in solitude or companionship
• healthy, delicious snacks and meals, freshly prepared, in accordance with your dietary restrictions
• peaceful sleeping quarters, with private or shared bath, that restore your energy for work and for play
• access to retreat space amenities such as yoga, massage, and meditation

Each Residential Writing Retreat is designed to provide enough structure to keep you writing and enough flexibility to let you sink into your work. The retreat begins at 6pm on Sunday evening and ends at 8 pm on Friday evening. Breakfast is provided before departure on Saturday morning. From Monday through Friday, Full Program participants participate in reflective workshops, as well as meals which are served family style. Apart from these meetings, writers are encouraged to follow their own impulse when deciding when to do what.

InkWell Academic Writing Retreats are open to all scholars at every rank and of every type of institutional affiliation. Whether you are a graduate student, postdoc, administrator, independent scholar, non-tenure track or tenure track faculty member, you are welcome to join us.

"Michelle Boyd’s Writing Retreat is, quite simply, zen: it is work, meditation, and joy all rolled into a journey of discovering who you are as a writer. Michelle closely works with each writer to establish realistic and measurable goals and provides practical strategies to achieve them. Her retreat enabled me to produce as much writing in five days as I would in five months on my own. Whether you are a creative writer facing a block or an academic writer learning to navigate academia, Michelle will help you find a writing path uniquely suited to your needs. This retreat is indispensable for those who want to write a lot while also maintaining a healthy work-life balance."
--Assistant Professor, Comprehensive University

"Call me mad, but I travelled half way around the world to participate in this writing retreat, and it was so worth it. Prior to the retreat my writing process had become an ugly thing, messy, disorganized, and ultimately unproductive. Now, though, I have acquired new habits and put an end to the activities that had been holding me back. I would strongly recommend this retreat to anyone who wants to become less anxious, better organised, and more productive."
--Anthony Patterson, Professor of Marketing, University of Liverpool

"This holistic model really freed me up to be intentional and productive in my work."
--Fay Rosner, Assistant Professor of Instruction, Northwestern University

“While on a retreat in September 2011 at Dahlonega Spa Resort , I had just finished walking the labyrinth that Helen introduced to me at a prior retreat and meditating on a big career milestone in my life. Right after I finished my meditation, I got the call that I had gotten the promotion at my company that I had been wanting! It was a huge turning point for me and my career. And, it was just the beginning of more positives to come in my life."

"Through Helen, I have learned how to dial back my life, sort through what’s important and what’s not, and achieve personal AND professional balance. I have also learned how to take care of not just my body, but also my soul. I look forward to yet another amazing retreat with Helen….this time in beautiful Costa Rica and I think this is my 10th retreat? So many great ones that I have lost count…..and each one enlightens more and more! Thank you for all that you do and impart to your students. Your retreats and yoga practice impact many lives. We are honored to have you as our teacher and friend!”

"Hello there my yoga guru!
It is amazing how one encounter with a person can change your life. It was such a blessing to meet you last year. I am so grateful to have attended your retreat this year. I knew it was going to be wonderful, but it actually exceeded my expectations. Pam and I LOVED it! The weekend was a wonderful celebration of self and our connectedness to everyone and everything. It was a beautiful expression of love and gratitude.
As a result, I think I am letting off a glow to all my friends. Not surprisingly, they want a piece of it. I belong to a woman’s group that met on Wednesday night and they could not wait to sign up after hearing about the retreat. I think I could honestly fill all spots with friends who are amazed with what it has done for me!
I bet this is overwhelming for you to experience such success with these retreats. It is such a reflection of the absolutely amazing job that you do. You are an absolutely amazing woman. I am deeply and profoundly thankful!"
